The Center for Effective Philanthropy just released State of Nonprofits 2026: What Funders Need to Know, built on what nonprofit CEOs are telling them directly. I read it twice, and the message is hard to miss.
Nonprofit leaders are burning out at a rate that’s climbing fast, and they say the current climate is wearing down staff morale and raising stress and fear across their teams. Foundation dollars are harder to secure than they’ve been in years. And yet many organizations aren’t folding. They’re adapting, rethinking how they work so they can keep serving the people who count on them.
That last part gives me hope. It also tells me where donors like you and me come in. Resilience shouldn’t fall on the shoulders of exhausted leaders alone.
