What’s your WIN NUMBER?

Whether you’re running for School board or County Council or State Rep, one of the first things you say to yourself is what do I have to do to win this seat?

You have to find out exactly what they call your WIN NUMBER. The WIN number is the minimum number of votes a candidate must receive to guarantee victory, based on expected turnout and number of opponents.

BASIC FORMULA:

WIN NUMBER = (Total expected turnout ÷ Number of seats available ÷ Competitive candidates) + 1

In simple terms: WIN number = 50% of expected turnout + 1 vote
